Synthetic hair extensions are completely different chemical structures. They are made from man-made fibers like acrylic, nylon, or polyester. They are less expensive, but cannot be heat-styled, unless labeled as "heat-friendly", and are often used for temporary styles (e.g., clip-ins, wigs).
Most are hydrophobic, meaning they repel water. This implies that they don’t swell and contract with humidity the way biological hair does.
